What many shoppers may not realise, is that market day is a really big deal for the farmers we support.

For several; this is an affirming event, they are excited and can’t wait to showcase their produce.
Others are reticent – this is a daunting task that not only requires travel over long distances, but also harvesting of their best veggies, not knowing if they will be sold. Some farmers are shy and say things like “I didn’t think my garden’s produce was good enough for the Checkers”.

It is so very worthwhile though. The outcome of this process is not just income generation its a lot about soft skills too. Relearning that their organic produce is good, that they can do the marketing and that people are interested in their stories. This has positive ramifications beyond the day.
After yesterday; the farmers are motivated and encouraged. Their confidence is boosted, their interest in the training is increased and their commitment to farming is bolstered.
